LEAD GENERATION STRATEGY

Lead generation strategy for service businesses: a 4-stage engine you own, built around where your pipeline actually leaks. Based in Pocatello. Works anywhere.

The 24 hours after a lead shows up

Here is what I actually see when an owner tells me they have a lead problem. The phone rings, or the form gets filled out, and the lead sits in someone’s inbox until it goes cold. Nobody dropped it on purpose. There was just no one who owned the next 24 hours.
A full pipeline can still leak: the ads work, the phone rings, and then follow-up is whoever remembers. So the business swings between slammed and scared. Marketing gets attention in the slow months and gets dropped in the busy ones, which is exactly backwards, and I wrote about that cycle in how to stop reactive marketing. If that swing feels familiar, the fix starts with finding the stage that leaks, and that is a different job than buying more leads.

What a lead generation strategy actually is

A lead generation strategy is the written plan for how a stranger becomes a paying customer: every stage named, every stage with one job, and a real person or system owning each handoff. That is a different thing from buying a list of names, and it is different from handing an agency a monthly ad budget and hoping. (If the line between strategy and tactics is blurry, marketing strategy vs marketing tactics draws it.)
Strategy Zoo does not sell ad retainers. I run on one rule: lead generation is not a traffic problem until everything else has been ruled out. A business can have plenty of attention and still lose every lead it earns, to a confusing offer or a follow-up that never happens. What I build with you is the engine itself: the map, the diagnosis of where yours leaks, and the fix list in the right order. Ads can come later, as fuel on an engine that already works, if the math earns it. The engine comes first, and it is built from things you own instead of attention you rent: the accounts, the list, the reviews, the content.

The Lead Engine: 4 stages, one job each

The framework is the same one in our Lead Engine Blueprint, and it does not get cleverer than this on purpose.
1. Get Found. Show up before the click. Your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your content do the selling before anyone talks to you.
2. Capture. Give them a reason to raise their hand. A specific, useful offer beats “contact us” for everyone who is not ready to call yet.
3. Nurture. Build trust before the call. A follow-up sequence that runs automatically, because almost nobody buys the day they find you.
4. Convert. Make it easy to say yes. One clear ask, proof sitting right next to it, and a named next step.
The blueprint ships with a 60-second self-audit: 17 checks across the 4 stages. You mark what you honestly cannot check off, and the stage with the most empty boxes is your leak. That is where the work starts. In practice owners have Get Found half-handled and then jump straight to trying to close, and the 2 stages in the middle are where the money is.
Run right, the engine is a loop, not a line. The customer you convert leaves the review that helps the next stranger find you and trust you, and getting the next customer becomes easier than getting the last one.

How working together goes

We score your engine first, against the same self-audit in the kit, with your real numbers wherever you have them. The whole exercise answers one question: where the constraint sits between “somebody could buy from you” and “money hits the bank.” You get a written diagnosis: which stages leak, what to fix, and in what order. Then we fix them in order. Some of that is strategy work, like the offer itself and the message around it. Some of it is systems work, like a form that routes to a real owner and a follow-up sequence that actually sends. When the systems half is the whole job, that is CRM setup, offered on its own. When something needs building, I get inside the actual tools and build it. The plan is not a PDF that gets admired and shelved. What you end up with is an engine that keeps running while you are busy doing the actual work, which is the entire point.
It starts with a discovery call. 30 minutes, on Google Meet, or in person if you’re local. We figure out what you’re actually trying to build, where the business is stuck, and whether working together would help. If it would not, I will say so and point you toward what fits better.

What it looks like when it works

J. runs an accounting firm out of state. Partway through running his plan he sent me a message I still have a screenshot of: “I just passed my $300k in recurring revenue goal! You are awesome and I haven’t even done everything you have planned for me!” His number, not mine. The second sentence is the part I keep pointing at, because the plan was only half-run when the number showed up. Order beat completeness.
J. runs a bar here in Pocatello. Her review after we finished: “Morgan outlined specific tasks and explained the reasoning behind them. We now have a clear 45-day action plan.” A bar in Pocatello and an accounting firm in another state do not share a playbook. What they shared was a way to find the leak, and a list, in order, with the reasoning attached.

Lead generation questions, answered straight

Do I need to run ads to generate leads?
No. Ads amplify an engine that already works, and they punish one that leaks. Plenty of service businesses fill their calendar on owned channels, and I laid out how in how to get leads without paid ads. If ads make sense for you, they come after the engine holds water, not before.
How long before a lead engine starts producing?
It depends on which stage leaks. Follow-up fixes tend to show up fast, sometimes inside a couple of weeks, because the leads were already arriving and dying. Visibility work compounds slower, over months. I do not promise windows, and if somebody does promise you one, ask them which stage they measured first. If nothing has worked no matter what you have tried, why your marketing isn’t working walks the diagnosis.
What does lead generation help cost?
It depends on the shape of the work: a one-time strategy engagement, ongoing consulting, or you running the plan yourself with the free kit. I am not going to put numbers here, because quoting a price before seeing your engine would be guessing, and guessing is the thing we are getting you out of. The discovery call is free and you leave it knowing the honest shape of the work either way.
Can I build this myself?
Yes. The 2026 Growth Kit is the same framework I use, free, with the self-audit included, and some owners take it and run. Where they usually stall is the middle: the follow-up sequence that never gets built because the busy season hit. If that happens, that is what the call is for.
What makes this different from hiring an agency?
An agency sells you execution inside their walls, and when you leave, it leaves with them. This builds the engine inside your business, in accounts you own. And because Strategy Zoo does not sell ad retainers, the plan never bends toward what I happen to bill for.
